As a proud Australian of the Commonwealth I wish to state that Argentinians, and more to the point the President should focus on more important issues that are effecting Argentina at this present time than disputing about the claim for some remote islands that really serve no purpose to the Argentinian people. Argentina is very good at destracting their constituents from the realities of how the national economy is performing. It is an example that so little has changed when General Galtieri was in charge. Argentina has more deep seeded problems and should address these first before destracting their people from centre stage about issues which at this moment of time are not at centre stage.

I would like to see Argentina focus more importantly on their own country than about issues that are far away from changing their economic situation.

Argentina should not do this and as they only lead to being a country who is acting as a bully against their neighbour.

what makes a land belong to a group of people, the people that found it, first to live there, North and South America proove these wrong. No its the people that live there now. History is not the point, nor how close to ones country is to another's. The people that live here have rights, we have choosen our path, We will remain British until we decide other wise and then we will be Falkland Islanders and not Argintine or anything else.

As an Australian, married to a Chilean, with some cousins on my British side resident in the Falklands, I support the Falklanders right to decide their future. And they have clearly indicated that prefer to remain connected to Britain and not Argentina. Many of them have lived for many generations there and are truly proud of their Falklands Islands identity. For example my cousin has won the islands first gold medal in the biannual Small Nations Games in the early 1990's and was received as a national hero when he returned to the islands. The Falklands have also sent a cricket team to Chile to compete against the locals in recent years. As to the Argentinian claim, its very weak.Do Brazilians claim French Guiana on the South American continent, answer no. Like in 1982, Kirchner is looking for a distraction from internal political problems like corruption. Chile should support the Falklanders, as they know from personal experience how Argentina can act like a bully.

Not all Argentinians want the Malvinas back - there's nothing there, the oil will be extremely expensive and ecological dangerous to extract. Let us forget territorial disputes with Chile and England for stupid windswept rocks and run our country right. Remember what Borges wrote. He was so right. Y los chicos si se escribe en español, no utilizar el Inglés!

the people of the falklands will "pack their bags and go home to london" when 90% of argentina's population pack their bags and go home to spain the falklands are british as long as they wish to be if argentina wants them back try and take them because we all know what happened last time if not just shut up argentina and move on because your never geting the falklands

That is your reasoning?...Wow, and you just thought that?...The criterion for not going that far in time, is considered an invasion when a nation inavade another and this is already recognized worldwide. The British invaded the Falklands when they had people and a governor of Argentina in the islands. So the territory, as well as supported by the criterion of continental shelf, is from Argentina. If people now living in it, whether British, Chilean, German or Japanese want to live in them, not being questioned by our nation. Regards

I suggest to Argentineans to be British subjects and so any sovereignty question about Falkland Islands will have vanished...On the other hand, Chile is an independent country which must not allow any kind of pressure from Argentina that could affect its own interests.

God save Cristina!!!

No one is asking the islanders to stop being british, of course that is up to you, you are asked to give back the land you invaded. If you want to continue living there, it's fine, but under argentine administration.

Why is it so hard to understand?

3 months of rightful ocuppation trumph any period of illegitimate invasion by british armies.

Before the british invasion in 1833, England, Spain and Portugal had acknowledged the rights of Argentina over the islands.

Malvinas, India, Scotland, Ireland, USA, all victims of english invasion.
