Piñera to sign, seek out new FTAs at APEC gathering in Russia this weekend.

President Sebastían Piñera travelled to Vladivostok, Russia, on Wednesday for an annual gathering of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) representatives with an agenda to solidify a free-trade agreements (FTA) with Hong Kong and seek out new FTAs with Russia and Indonesia.

asia_tour APEC is regional economic forum comprising 54 percent of global GDP and 44 percent of international trade.

“Every time we open up the market we create more jobs, better opportunities, better salaries and therefore a better quality of life for Chileans,” Piñera told local press.

Piñera will also meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin about creating an FTA between Russia and Chile. The Chilean ambassador in Moscow, Juan Eduardo Eguiguren, said the two countries have already made significant advancements in their bilateral relationship, such as a recently-signed tourist visa agreement and a member states agreement, which is currently in the process of ratification.
