After the presence of Honduran President Porfirio Lobo at the upcoming European Union-Latin American/Caribbean summit in Madrid was a hotly debated topic at this week’s UNASUR meeting, it was announced that Lobo would not be attending the event.
UNASUR, a union of twelve South American countries following the pattern on the European Union, met in Buenos Aires this week to discuss regional issues. UNASUR as an entity has stated that it does not recognise the government of Honduras as a legitimate one because of the way in which Lobo came to power (ST, May 6, 2010).
