Note: The international nuclear energy lobby, encouraged by the U.S. ambassador (we are told) and many of the nation´s top political ´thinkers,’ has its eyes set on energy-hungry Chile. And the newly elected Piñera administration was supposed to carry the water. (But in the aftermath of the February 27 earthquake and tsunami – what political leader in his right mind can seriously propose nuclear energy for this country? Especially when Chile is so rich in renewable energy potential? (The essay below by La Nacion columnist Raul Sohr addresses this issue very forthrightly. It will be interesting to see what Chile´s nuclear energy proponents come up with next as they try to sell nuclear snake oil to country.)
