First day will involve travelling to disaster-struck area

At 11:45 a.m. today, billionaire and president-elect Sebastian Piñera will be inaugurated in Valparaiso as the next President of Chile. In the wake of the 8.8-magnitude earthquake that hit the country on Feb. 27, the ceremony will be a sober one.

“We cannot celebrate while our fellow citizens are suffering and have lost everything. These are times of solidarity, of national unity and of working together to fix the country,” said the new government in a statement this week.
