Chile officially responded Tuesday to the maritime lawsuit that neighboring Peru filed in March, 2009 at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the Hague. The ICJ is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations and its final ruling on the matter will be binding and irreversible. The 200-page response centers on a long-simmering dispute over the ownership of valuable fishing waters off the coasts of both nations.
