Bachelet Has Now Delivered On 40% Of Her Promises, Says Activist

Chile’s environmental community last Friday celebrated laws recently passed in Congress creating new, more independent institutions to safeguard the nation’s environment and natural patrimony. 

The new institutions include a Ministry of the Environment, a Superintendent of the Environment, an Environmental Evaluation Service, and a special court to review decisions taken by Chile’s environmental agencies and other environmental matters. Congress also agreed to legislate the creation of a special agency to safeguard the nation’s biodiversity and protected areas in the future.
