Thousands of young Christians marched across Valparaíso this last  weekend as participants in the 13th Annual National Youth Christian Pilgrimage. The show of Christian faith took believers on a 10- mile hike  from Valparaiso’s Plaza de Armas to the Lo Vásquez holy sanctuary.

Among the estimated 9,000 youth were representatives from over 60 communities in Region V. During the five-hour walk pilgrims expressed their joy by singing hymns and playing instruments.

Valparaíso Bishop Gonzalo Duarte greeted the pilgrims at the end of their trek, congratulating them on their solidarity and stressing the importance of active participation in youth initiatives. “It’s very important that the youth come to involve God in their lives,” Duarte said. “By doing so, they can discover a beautiful new meaning for their lives.”
