Libel Lawsuit Against Journalist Pascale Bonnefoy Is Delayed Again
A military officer who went to special lengths to
humiliate, intimidate and de-humanize political prisoners taken in the
wake of Chile’s 9/11/73 coup is the subject of Chile’s first human
rights case to be tried under its new, open-to-the-public criminal
justice system.
Chilean journalist Pascale Bonnefoy (left), the defendant in a libel
suit brought by ex-military official Edwin Dimter Biachi, hears from
her lawyer that the the trial was postponed until January after one of
Dimter's witnesses did not show up for court. Dimter v. Bonnefoy will
be the first case tried in Chile relating to human rights violations
during the Gen. Pincohet military dictatorship.
