Winning photo of Chilean volcanic eruption was chosen over 7,450 others.

Chilean photographer Francisco Negroni won the grand prize on Friday at the Spanish Fotocam 2011 photography contest. The winning picture shows the 2011 volcanic eruption in Cordon Caulle, in the Lago Ranco Commune, Chile.

caulle_eruption Negroni was one of 7,450 contestants and won 6,000 euros (US$7,380). The jury, made up of international professionals, hailed the “dramatic intensity” of the picture, as well as the artistic quality and the difficult technique of taking nocturnal images.

The contest also includes nine other categories; fauna, vegetation, submarine, creative, landscape, man and nature, biodiversity, macrophotography and the Spanish Association of Nature Photographers (AEFONA). Negroni’s image was in the landscape category.
