Dedicated to the schooner that sank in the harbor of Iquique 132 years ago during the War of the Pacific, a museum honoring the “Esmeralda” was inaugurated Saturday, complete of a replica of the original ship, which had been built in England between 1854 and 1856.

Kendra worked as news editor at her college newspaper and freelanced for her city’s local newspaper back in Los Angeles before deciding to study abroad in Santiago for one full year. Aside from her internship with the Santiago Times, she is also taking courses in Spanish, Political Science and Journalism at Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile that will count towards her undergraduate degree in California.
