Thousands gather to express their support of equal rights for Chile's LGBT community. An estimated 70,000 LGBT activists and supporters came together in Santiago Saturday to rally support for increased recognition and rights on a variety of issues. The march was sponsored by the gay rights organizations Movement for Sexual Diversity (Mums) and Chilean AIDS Prevention Council (Acciongay).

The march's organizers delineated three main focuses of 2012's march: adding a preventative mechanism to Chile’s recently-passed
anti-discrimination law, providing representative identification for transsexuals and developing an education campaign about sexual differences in public schools.
"Nowhere are the words gay or lesbian mentioned in public school education. We need to focus on education so that future generations don't discriminate," Gonzalo Cid, spokesperson for Mums, told the Santiago Times.
