Lesbian judge wins custody over her children after eight-year struggle against the state.

In 2004, Chile’s Supreme Court took away custody of Chilean judge Karen Atala’s three daughters because Atala announced she was a lesbian.

After eight years of fighting in court, Atala, 48, learned Tuesday that the Inter-American Court (IACHR) had ruled in favor of her right to the custody of her children.
