Hydroelectric project quietly moves forward as locals call for greater impact studies.

Chile’s Environmental Assessment Service, or ICE, will soon rule on the environmental feasibility of the second largest hydroelectric project in the Aysén Region in southern Chile. Energía Austral, the Chilean subsidiary of Swiss multinational Xstrata, submitted their environmental report for the energy project on Jan. 3.
