Despite popular belief that the capital is by far the most polluted city in the country, Temuco, Rancagua and Talca have greater air pollution levels.Pre-emergency declarations, environmental alerts and respiratory illnesses are part of daily life in Santiago these days. However, recent studies show that air pollution levels are even worse in other parts of the country. Amazingly, this means the capital enjoys better air quality than many cities across Chile, especially in the South.
