Police to begin investigation of the accident.

Two miners were killed in the Ignacia copper mine in the northern Atacama region after an explosion Wednesday morning.

mining_sales The miners, identified as Cristián González Parra, 27, and Jorge Silva Mancilla, 46, were in the process of extracting minerals and handling explosives when the accident occurred around 9 a.m. According to District Attorney Álvaro Pérez the cause of the accident will be established in the upcoming investigations.

“The District Attorney’s Office has ordered for the presence of the carabineros (Chile’s uniformed police) to carry out the appropriate proceedings,” Pérez told the press. “Workers who witnessed the accident will be interviewed.”
